ReSiLient

Securing Europe's Silicon & SiC Supply Chain

Pioneering primary substitution and secondary valorisation routes to reinforce Europe's silicon and silicon carbide semiconductor raw material value chains — reducing import dependency and cutting CO₂ emissions by over 300kt by 2050

About the project

What is ReSiLient?

Securing Europe's semiconductor future

ReSiLient pioneers innovative solutions to reinforce Europe's silicon and silicon carbide semiconductor raw material value chains. The project directly tackles three critical challenges: limited access to high-quality quartz, insufficient domestic processing capacity, and the high environmental footprint of current production routes.

By uniting a full value chain consortium — from raw material producers and recyclers through technology developers to semiconductor manufacturers — ReSiLient ensures innovations are demonstrated at pre-industrial scale and ready for market adoption.

Three core challenges

Challenges ReSiLient will tackle

01

Access to high-quality quartz

Limited and looming shortage of primary raw materials critical for Si and SiC production across Europe.

02

Domestic processing capacity

Insufficient European processing creates strategic vulnerability and deep import dependency on third countries.

03

Environmental footprint

Current production routes must be decarbonised to align with the EU Green Deal and CBAM objectives — cutting over 300kt CO₂ by 2050.
